November 22, 2022: Reader Tips

On November 22, 1963, at 12:30 PM, on Elm Street in downtown Dallas, President John F. Kennedy’s motorcade slowly approached a triple underpass. Shots rang out. The President was struck in the back, then in the head. He was rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital where fifteen doctors tried to save him. At 1 PM, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States, was pronounced dead. On board Air Force One, at 2:38 PM, Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the 36th President.

Your latest tips, which might be historic 50+ years from now, are appreciated.

    1. I was sitting in the car with three friends on Main St in our small town, listening to the radio and wondering what we were going to do for the rest of the day. And yes those decades sure did fly by.

      1. The shock of hearing the teacher say “President Kennedy is dead” is deep in my memory.
We lived in a border city, American parents, knew more about the States than Canada.

    1. I remember the first time I saw the Russian Army goose stepping through Red Square during their annual parade.

      Reminded me of …

Scott Galloway is a professyr of Marketing. Professyrs are the smartest people around, otherwise our friends in the media would not use them as experts all the time.
When is Biden going to nuke Putin for interfering AGAIN on behalf of dRumpf!

    1. Why would the Russians support American nationalist Trump when they’ve already bought and paid for the Bidens? The whole Trump/Russia narrative was and still is lunacy.

    1. joe, no one gives a damn, if they did people would be in jail and the shots would be stopped. Have you seen either, I have not.

  2. An interesting movie about the assassination is called “Executive Action”. Sort of a low budget affair, and I expect its stars Robert Ryan and Burt Lancaster didn’t demand their standard pay rate.

Best line in the movie, to my mind, is in the scene after the assassination, when the principals were celebrating their work. One fellow said: “the thing that really bothers me is, who the hell is going to believe such a cock and bull story as Lee Harvey Oswald?” The chief conspirator replied: “They’ll believe because they’ll want to believe it. Because not believing means they’ll have to believe something that is just too terrible for most normal American minds to contemplate. So they’ll happily believe a cock and bull story.”

60+ years later, fewer and fewer Americans choose to embrace the government’s official narrative, and even Congress declared the President was murdered as a result of a conspiracy. A lot of water has flowed under that bridge, and no one loves America’s Greatest Psychopath, LBJ.

    1. Read ‘The Third Bullet’ by Stephen Hunter. It’s an enjoyable read.

Presented as a work of fiction but is it?

    2. Indeed a cock and bull story that many of us didn’t swallow. A ‘marksman’ with a bolt action rifle shooting at a moving target through a declination radius of somewhere between 75 degrees and 55 degrees, and one of the bullets injures two people. Try pulling that trick of physics in any court today and you’d by laughed at. But the American public bought it lock, stock and barrel (pardon the pun).

      1. I was in Dallas a few years ago and visiting the site was on the bucket list.
The museum in Dealy Plaza was very interesting, as well as the grounds around the grassy knoll, where there were many people offering their own ‘views’ of the tragic event. The ‘official narrative’ does seem a bit far fetched..

The ultimate tour to take would be the one offered by JFK Custom Tours, they have a restored 1963 Lincoln convertible they take you on the tour in, with notable historians providing the tour and even the possibility of talking with an eye witness to the events.

        1. Mark Groubert on YT recently reported from Dallas, and he talked about the Book Depository Museum. Interestingly, he said that there are many factual errors throughout the exhibits, and naturally all the errors support the government narrative. I think Mark said the building and museum is owned/was owned by a friend of LBJ’s, who wouldn’t have been saddened at JFK’s demise, as he had a financial interest in maintaining the getting rid of JFK because of the oil depletion allowance.

          1. …this was garbled up as my browser kept reporting it had lost “connection to the database”.

Read: he had a financial interest in maintaining the oil depletion allowance.

    1. Don’t worry the Mullah’s can have it all seized so they can secretly drink it when nobody is around.

    2. “Budweiser stuck with a mountain of fizzy, yellow liquid…”

      FTFY.

And, I find it impossible to muster a single fizzy yellow drop’s worth of pity. The quicker that abomination of a company dissolves into bankruptcy, the better.

    1. C.S. Lewis:

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good, will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

“In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”

  3. Bumping from the Blog Notes thread –
How do the avatars work? I don’t see a field for avatar when I post a comment.

  4. Further to yesterday’s discussion of woke Disney, I wonder about Disney’s growing unpopularity has the fame feel as what happened to Barney the Dinosaur — that unliked purple character on PPS from 1996 to 2010. The woke producers at PPS were puzzled by the populist negativity. There is a left-wing documentary on this, and if one excuses the occasional left-wing comment, the unpopularity of Barney is accurately discussed in this New Yorker article:
    https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/the-unbearable-blandness-of-barney

From the article, PPS’s Barney show was bland, preachy, filled with racially-dirverse kids. The Barney character has an unlikable voice. And everything out of his mouth was goody-goody. As I remember it, kids marked their developmental growth by outgrowing Barney, then hating him in the school yards.

I wonder if Disney is following this process. The attacks in the conservative media are only a small part of the underground rebellion against the mega-corporation. This same thing holds true with the increasingly woke TV commercials.

    1. As to Barney’s extinction, I remember hearing some school kids singing a modified version of the theme song, thus;
“I love you, you love me, we’re a happy fam… Then a shot rang out and Barney hit the floor, no more F’n dinosaur!!”

  5. Speaking of irritating woke commercials, Bell Canada is currently running this 5G commercial, “Suffer the Buffer”:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qyvF1dt_9B8

In it, an Indo-Canadian girl shows off this ridiculous-looking Indian dance move. The white girl thinks it’s weird. So the Indian teenager uses her 5G phone to boot up the Indian dance she is copying. The white girl appears sha med, suffering by trapped in a buffered Canadian culture.

    1. I love the Tide commercial where the savvy brown girl has to explain to the dumb white girl that her discount detergent is mostly water.

      1. I detest those holier than thou Tide commercials. Over the decades they sold probably billions of gallons of water w/ a splash of cleaning fluid in them under the guise of laundry detergent & now that they’ve cut back on water content, suddenly they’re better’n everybody else?

        FOAD, hypocrites.

    1. The other incident involves the Confederate flag which was waved very briefly, and the PM ‘s personal photographer just happened to be there to catch a picture. For the government to deliberately stage events intended to discredit the protest and paint ordinary citizens as extremists is completely unethical. A new low. I am disgusted.

  6. On this date in 1963, my 3rd year Engineering class at U of M had a cancelledlate morning lab. So we went to the nearest waterhole, the pub at the long-gone Montcalm Motor Inn. There was a small black and white TV and that is how we learned about the assisination. So that is where I was, and I still have at least one witness.

  7. To all the conspiracy believers, I would urge you to read Vincent Bugliosi’s exhaustive study of the JFK assassination, and the 1001 conspiracy theories. It’s called “Reclaiming History”.

” A joke told in the comparatively small anti-conspiracy community about the conspiracy buffs’ belief that just about everyone was involved in the cover-up of the assassination has them lined up in front of God at the end of time asking him, “Tell us, God, who really killed President Kennedy?” When God replies, “Listen, I’m just going to tell you one time and one time only, and then I want you to forget about this matter—Lee Harvey Oswald killed Kennedy and he acted alone,” the buffs, in terrible angst, nudge each other nervously and say, “This is a lot bigger than we thought.”

    Vincent Bugliosi

    1. Sooke, YES.
The attention span here tho is deficient.
I read this door-stopper (for a very big door).
My one sticking point before reading it was that obviously with the head snapping violently back there had to be a second shooter in front.
Bugliosi dealt with this erroneous conclusion brilliantly. He showed the mechanics of how the snap back could be consistent with a shot from behind.
He dispatched every single feverish fact-free conspiracy out there.

    2. Bugliosi was a crackpot conspiracy theorist. He believed Sirhan Sirhan did NOT act alone in the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy:

“We are talking about a conspiracy to commit murder … a conspiracy the prodigious dimensions of which would make Watergate look like a one-roach marijuana case.”

Everyone with an attention span knows Sirhan Sirhan was another example of that great American phenomenon, the lone nut.

      1. I read an excellent explanation of the error RFK Jr. made when claiming that the shot came from in front when Sirhan was behind. He’s wrong. Did not account for his father’s turning partially around before the shot.

        Bugliosi a “conspiracy crackpot”?!
Wow, how off base can you be? He exposes all the popular crackpot theories. You laugh a lot reading his magnum opus.

  8. People just don’t want to admit that Oswald did it, because Oswald was a Communist, and you’re not allowed to notice that Communists are dangerous. Blame the capitalists!

    1. ebt, YES.
PLUS people find it impossible to believe that a two-bit marxist loser could actually take down, single handedly, the “most powerful man in the world”. But that deed was shockingly easy to pull off.
Bugliosi’s book is essential reading …. unless for psychological reasons you need to cling to a laughable fact-free theory, in which case maybe seek some therapy before taking on the book.

  9. Tell ya what… We’ll quit w/ the RAYCISS!!! mascots, etc., when the Indians quit w/ their cultural appropriation: no more whitey designed clothes, vehicles, electronics, housing, money, food, language, horses, technology, education, weapons, federal funding, nuttin’. You get buckskins, teepees, bows & arrows. You go completely & entirely back to the stone age & we’ll sign to you that we’ve stopped.

    1. You forgot to say they should give up the “wheel” also, though I guess that could be covered under “technology”.

    1. So David – I had to drive to an appointment this morning. I tuned in John Gormley and consequently the CKOM’s news reports. The bought and paid for media was doing a wonderful job repeating the minister’s statement on how threatening the protests were. Over and over. The convoy lawyers have exposed the corruption of the government and most of the people won’t hear a word about it. Miller will likely be lucky if he doesn’t end up in jail. It is one of the sadest days of my life. The media should be ashamed.

    2. Here’s a 3 minute clip showing when miller was booted.
He wanted the testimony of a witness to counter Mendocinos testimony.
Watch Mendocinos eyes. Alexander Cohen is his Director of Communications.
Read the pinned clip for the relevance to the testimony.

  10. I was a Journalism student at Ryerson Polytech in Toronto. I was monitoring the newswire on that day when the urgent 3-ring signal rang out. “Kennedy Shot”, read the header. I took the teletype printout into class next door. A day I shall remember forever.

    1. Aren’t you glad this was decades before they revamped it and recently renamed it Toronto Metrosexual University? 😉
