Shocked, I tell you! Shocked!

If Rodriquez literally could not see this coming, he’s not fit to fill the role of municipal dogcatcher, much less a federal cabinet post. Either that, or this was the desired outcome and he’s feigning indignation.

“Well, Meta, I always said it was complicated; Google we still have conversations as recent as this morning,” Rodriguez told CTV’s Power Play Thursday afternoon. “I’m a bit surprised by Google’s reaction.”

What’s more surprising about this mainstream news item is that, for once, it solicited comments that were actually critical of the government:

“The government made a big bet, seemingly just based on the notion that somehow this was all just a big bluff; I don’t think it read the room,” he said. “I don’t think it fully appreciated the current circumstances and it put a fundamental principle of the internet – the notion of free flow of information through linking – at risk.”

  1. The phrase: The village called– it wants it’s idiot back. Honestly if you can’t link to articles in the news without paying who’s going to link? Second they sell ads via visitor traffic, no links no traffic no ads. Again the village called.

  2. Like about 90% of the federal cabinet, Rodriguez is an incompetent diversity hire.

    1. The “Canadian” “Heritage Minister” Pablo Rodriguez was born in Argentina and his dad ran to Canada when his life was in danger because he was a communist and due for a one way helicopter ride. He’s trying to do to Canada what his father tried to do to Argentina.

  3. My take on the Trudeau 2.0 Cabinet is that they are all “book smart” but cannot make “connections” for the life of them all.
Chrystia Freedland has at least 2 degrees, neither of them are finance related, I wonder if she can balance her cheque book or is that an old-fashioned concept? The rest of them do not know or have never read (even the Cole’s Notes versions) the Canadian Constitution formulated by the Trudeau 1.0 government in 1982(??) or the British North America Act. The federal government keeps sticking its nose into provincial matters and threatens provincial premiers (Saskatchewan and New Brunswick most recently) with dire consequences if they do not “toe the federal line”.
In the vernacular of the 1970’s when I came of age, they can all “F *** off, eat S**t and Die!

    1. there’s nothing “book-smart” about this crowd. each one of them is more clueless than the next.
i spent a few years getting a Bachelor’s degree at Sir George Williams U in the 70s and I found that you didn’t have to be smart or even a good student to get a degree, just persistent.

      1. My Grandfather had a term for people like our government: Educated idiots.

And he was a career bureaucrat who worked as a tax assessor and deputy government agent back in the the olden days. He also despised Pierre Trudeau and would absolutely hate Justin Trudeau if he was alive today.

    2. She “reviewed her spending” and cancelled Disney+, because there wasn’t a benefit there, before giving $200 million to the Asian Investment Bank, so that China could make more investments that they control.

    3. I was astonished to read of Melanie Joly academic record. A LLB from Un Montreal, not surprising, but a MJUR degree from Oxford is; and for this she received a Chevening scholarship. So the Oxford degree would be in English, her second language she cannot be totally dumb.
Yet, her record in Cabinet is appalling; the $5.6M skating rink on PH just a few yards away from the longest rink in Can being only 1 example.
I have no explanation how these people lack any common sense.

  4. Just more evidence of the problem of government being in everything. Once there are laws and departments/ministries for everything, it requires government negotiations to do the most basic things that government is entirely ignorant about. Now we need a license to talk to a neighbor over the fence.

  5. I believe it is planned.

How to restrict access to news you don’t want the public to spread without restricting access to news. Control the messenger and you control the message. The MSM is now totally beholding to the the Feds to live. I think I’ve only seen one article in MSM that notes that this is actually bad for business and will take eyeballs off sites.

It is not unreasonable to allow exemption while going through the exemption process. If the exemption is applied for by the both the Media party and the Internet group, the exemption should be immediate, should the agreement fall through follow up with penalties or arbitration. Holding sites out of exemption while in process was an unnecessary dumb move (Liberal standard method)

  6. Fuçkink Chilean Marxist.
He missed his helicopter ride and took off to communist loving Canada

  7. Ha, ha ha! Ha, ha, ha. Such incompetence. Right up there with spending 11 million per job to get that VW E- battery plant and deliberately handicapping our oil and gas industry. They will drive Canada into bankruptcy before they are done.

    1. And in the same vein, VW announced in Germany that they are curtailing EV production because they aren’t selling that well. So why do they need a loan for a battery plant when the same thing is going to happen here (despite the UNjust Transition) plan.

      1. Why do they need a loan?

So they can launder the money back to Liberal party supporters via consulting fees and legal ‘services’.

  8. “What’s more surprising about this mainstream news item is that, for once, it solicited comments that were actually critical of the government”

Only because it directly affects them.

  9. Don’t let the orange party off the hook, they wear it too.
    Don’t have a job? Blame a union.

  10. Rodriguez, Not see.
Say it again quickly, 4 times, Not see, Not see, Not see, Not see.

    1. The entire lot of them Al.

When I’m told I should not be TOLERATED for the heinous “crime” of not being Vaxxed, and therefore a misogynist Racist with Far right views…? Then I know fer damned certain we are dealing with de-facto NAZI’s.

One look at their ideological leader, Klaus Schwab & it’s a Slam dunk.

Let’s not forget this Liberal govt took out an actual RFQ for Internment KAMPFS….

  11. “Around 500 newsrooms closed their doors across the country… and they will continue closing their doors,”

    Well, Amigo… it’s a start!

  12. If this reduces the flow of information, then, that was a goal. If this makes Google liable in some way for what it publishes, then, that was a goal. In no way was Google saying “no” unforeseen or troubling. Those emotional responses are the narrative.

  13. This is what happens when you put the kids in charge. Intellectual lightweights with hubris. A combination guaranteed to fail.

Canada is a shell of what it was. A land of untold riches where it’s citizens struggle to maintain a standard of living and pay their bills.

The Bong has embarrassed the country on the world stage reducing it to near laughing stock.

When history is written the trudeau years will be found wanting. He is not up to the task of leading a modern first world country and he surrounds himself with sycophants and poodles like clown prince Pablo Rodriguez.
    Utterly incompetent.

  14. Not sure I understand.. So every time somebody clicks on a “Canadians news” link “Canadian news” gets 2 cents.. Astounding that our morons think? the big players are going to sign off on a Monkey Pay Me button..

Canadian news will be clicking on their own links all day long.. Or paying some sweatshop 1 cent a link?.. Why click on your own links if you don’t have too..

      1. Yes , for those who understand how to use a VPN , which likely is the majority of the younger generation using Twitter , Facebook etc. Subscribe to a VPN outside Canada and set up your IP address anywhere in the world.

This Liberal episode to try and fleece and control social media is so incredibly stupid … but par for the course of Tyranny Trudeau.

        1. Remember, JustInflation’s Canada is a test bed for Klaus’ new world order.

When they fail, it’s just a learning, intermediate step. No doubt, Klaus will be having a discussion soon with his Google and Facebook underlings to get them in line.

  15. I am surprised the imbeciles in Canada’s various governments haven’t tried to set up a “Canadian Facebook, Canadian Instagram, Canadian Twitter, Canadian Google” to drive the American influences out.

They’ve got experience in building code, just look at the covid CanImmunize App they built from nothing.

    When is the separation referendum?

  16. “I always said it was complicated”

Only because he can’t spell “complicated”….

  17. Sitting here surfing yootoob – I CAN’T WAIT!!! for yootoob to join google and facepalm in the Canadian news boycott.

I think this is “a certain unnamed Prime Minister” in action. “Around 500 newsrooms closed their doors – and largely thanks to our bri – err, “financial incentives”, they were ALL ardent Liberal Party supporters! This is a TRAVESTY, I mean how are we to inform the beetle-browed voting masses about how unacceptable their opinions are and HOW GREAT I AM???!!! So, err, maybe if I force you big social media tycoons to bri – err, “financially incentivize” the few remaining newsrooms on my behalf, they’ll STAY ardent Liberal supporters! I INSIST that you big internet companies PAY YOUR SHARE of – err, hello? Hello?”

And the reply they gave him after they hung-up? “Two words, mister so-called prime minister – and they ain’t “Happy Day”…”

  18. While it’s easy to hate big tech hating the Canadian government is even easier.

  19. Heh – and the news this morning on yootoob is “all FRANCE, no Canada!” FAAFO for the win!
