  1. It’s a Flicker… I hate them because they keep trying to drill holes (big enough for nesting) into my house. And yet, they are a federally protected species, so even throwing nerf-balls at them is an offense that could put me in jail.

    1. They’re just making room for the illegals you’ll eventually have to keep in your home.

  2. If you’re a bit of a birder, there is an app called Merlin that will identify birds by sound. It does it other ways but that’s how I use it.
    On break from work at a dam on the Madawaska I was IDing birds like a pro.
    No northern flickers though.

  3. The Flickers show up around every Labour Day weekend, as they move south for the winter.
    Good gauge of how soon winter is coming.
