Saskatchewan talk show host, John Gormley announced on this morning’s show that he’s leaving on November 24th. I’ve known John since he ran for the PC nomination in the Battlefords, later overturning the NDP encumbent to serve a term as an MP with the Mulroney government.
Gormley leaves giant shoes to fill – especially as it concerns provincial politics.
Rawlco Radio’s John Gormley shared with listeners Wednesday morning that he is stepping away from his flagship radio show that has shaped Saskatchewan conversations for more than two decades.
While hesitant to call the move retiring, he is departing from the broadcast world to pursue other interests after marking a 25-year milestone in September. His last show is to air Nov. 24.
The big reveal as to his replacement is tomorrow.
Update: The new host will be former Regina City Police Chief, Evan Bray.
I vote Kate!
Conspiracy Kevin.
Brad W.
or the guy that calls every day saying how conservative he is.
Better not be quick (little)dick.
I got married and started my career 25 years ago. That radio show will be a nostalgic part of my life. Even though most days were just brief snippets.
Thanks John. I know you are reading this.
Quick Dick McDick should be a regular guest on the new show.
No.
Was working at CKBI/CKBQ television in the 70s. Had little interaction with Gormley. However, in years to come I would let him know he did more for Saskatchewan in his current roll than he ever could have as an MP. Good luck to you John. Some people are not replaceable.
Not being from the listening area, if Kate and her commenters were impressed, I had to click to find out more about Gormley. Glad I did.
This caught my eye: “Through the years, celebrities such as John Cleese, Bob Newhart, Suzanne Somers, Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings and, most recently, Jerry Seinfeld have appeared on the show.”
Impressive, and I liked the various theme days such as Rant Thursdays and the weekly Smartest Listener question.
Seems to me that Saskatchewan had quite a jewel for 25 years. Best of luck to y’all getting a good follow-up behind the mic. That’ll be a toughie.
I’ve listened to Gormley for all of his 25 years. He was considered a right wing maniac by the left back at the start.
He wasn’t and I never thought of him a particularly conservative guy. A Saskatchewan conservative of the time.
I think over the years he moved a little right reflecting the province itself. To be fair he probably helped move the bar.
He will be hard to replace. He’s Saskatchewan to the bone and really ‘gets the provincial vibe’.
Good on ya JG from a guy in Alberta.
Hoping it will be Brad W.
Over the years I’ve won ‘Saskatchewan’s Smartest Radio Listener’ 4 times, on questions varied from local history, military history, and North American geography. Still trying for my 5th win. I hope with the new host that segment of the program continues. I proudly wear my SSRL t-shirt to trivia nights at the Legion.
Good luck John in the future, enjoy your retirement…I retired 8 months ago, and am enjoying mine!
It’ll be Buffy. Returning to her native land to spread her people’s voices.
“It’ll be Buffy. Returning to her native land to spread her people’s voices.”
Does Buffy even speak Italian?
The most amazing things grow in rural areas.
Good riddance Gormless, you Covid mandate pushing piece of centrist filth.
Rawlco lost all credibility during Covid while they pushed shop local while simultaneously having Gormley push the masks & vaccines that ruined local small businesses.
Gormley’s replacement will unfortunately be either Saskatchewan’s biggest city slicker/wannabe cowboy Brad Wall or Saskatchewan’s biggest Covid mandate pusher Quick Cuck McCuck.
The only way I’ll ever listen again is if someone tells me Drew Remenda gets Gormley’s job.
I agree. I quit listening to Gormley at the beginning of the Covid scam where he ignored the warnings about the serious side effects and became a cheer leader for the Moe fan club pushing stupidity. Won’t miss him one little bit.
I vote for Kate or Drew.
Exactly. I wonder if Rawlco’s ratings fell once he started that, and haven’t recovered? We don’t listen anymore; we quit when he called the unvaxxed stupid scum or whatever.
Perhaps he’s being eased out in favor of someone that will rebuild the ratings. But if that someone isn’t representing the folks Gormley used to represent, the ratings will stay where they are.
Or maybe there are liability concerns arising out of the media’s pushing the vax that has turned out to be neither safe nor effective….
You nailed it Thor.
Gormley provided a great deal of common sense and reason. I did not like his stance on vaccines but I suspect a big part of that came from his employer who most likely benefits from government largesse.
I suspect his replacement will be a lefty or a squishy middle of the roader, unfortunately.
I guess I must be a bit petty and hold a grudge because I have no sad feelings to see him go. He’s a bloody sellout like pretty much the rest of conservatives including his hero’s in the Sask party. I last tuned in when he was screeching about the Covid death rate where he argued it was 1-3% and then fully supported Covid shots,
Mandates and all that went with it. His inability to remain true to actual conservative values is quite pathetic. With that said knowing Rawlco radio they’ll continue to move to the left with some progressive goofball.
I will add one other story that cemented my thoughts on him. I tried two years in a row, talked to his producer, emailed him and his show but never got any acknowledgment or any reference to the points of view I was trying to make. Every year they make a big deal about Bells let’s talk day and they have guests and segments where they talk about mental health and all that surrounds it. The slogan had/has been, “sick not weak”
My comments on this were about a very recent situation where my wife’s best friend was murdered by her spouse and his whole defence was he was mentally ill and therefore not responsible. My concern and opinion was sick is way too much of an excuse for too many people and this piece of garbage was sick AND weak. The fact that he or his show had zero ability to broadcast a viewpoint trying to argue against an assumed factual talking point showed me all I need to know about him and his desire to hear alternative points. He’s just another hack pretending to be smarter than the rest.
I knew John G when we both stayed at the same students residence at the UofS in the late 70’s. I am glad that he had a good career.
Listened to him faithfully throughout those 25 years. He has contributed greatly to the positive changes we see in our province today.
As with everything change has its inevitable consequences and it started with that cold/ flu season of 2020. Could not disagree with him more and the guests he had like Joe bloundea and the vaxx nazis calling the unvaxxed the scum of the earth and his acceptance of that hate began the decline for me of his views.
His political views seem to move with the Overton window as we are seeing now and questioned is he really that stupid, I think not ! He is an intelligent man and believe he’s betraying his true self as it is really the majority of the captive audience that dictates the opinions.
He didn’t have to become Alex Jones for me but cmon man, what happened to you. So intuitively I’m not surprised he’s leaving.
For the most part, I really liked listening to John. It changed when my wife called to challenge him on an issue once. She got sandbagged by him before she had a chance to talk. John’s screener had obviously flagged her for her conservative view and he didn’t have the courage to hear her out. Once I had seen this side of the game, it became more obvious that the shows premise was as much to make himself sound smart and prop the ratings.
I held my nose and still listened as it was interesting. He was mostly a voice of reason, until covid when he became another ranting fear machine when we needed a voice of reason in the arena.
Media’s credibility is almost zero so I don’t see his departure as being very significant.
I’d say it’s a great time for a true conservative to launch a program but I’m sure nobody would take one, it might cost them some liberal favour
Listened to Gormley the whole way through, 25 years. Listened to him slowly move to the center over the years, and then was shocked how quickly it accelerated during the Wuhan Flu crisis. But I guess his move leftward wasn’t fast enough for Rawlco, because they’re replacing him with Even Bray.( in the works for a year)
I don’t understand how or why anyone thinks cjme/ckom is a conservative radio station, there was nothing conservative about it out side of Gormley, the News Dept is as far left as any MSM, I swear they used to cut and paste from the Huffington Post every morning. Now it’s CNN and MSNBC. Ever hear Lisa Schick report,,, there isn’t an NDP talking point she doesn’t love to pump out. I left the sports show years ago because of the neoMarxist, D Davis, the regular they would have on.
So thankful for internet radio, or atleast till Trudeau shuts it down, Rawlco is probably cheering that on too,,, behind the scenes.
I hope Gormley isn’t planning to push out another book, I think he might get a big surprise on the sales side.
Sheesh.
A talk show host is in the entertainment business. Think Saskatchewan’s Smartest Radio Listener. These guys have to reflect the views of their audience, or they’re gone. Gormley did that. For 25 years.
If your looking for hard right wing you should quit listening to terrestrial radio.
I don’t care if he promoted masks or the vax. So did the chief officer of health and the government. In every province. If you don’t want to follow the advice of a doctor, don’t.
Saskatchewan has 2 choices in radio. Gormley or cbc. Take your pick.
Gormley had common sense when his show began, was quickly ordered to stop that, so became a pathetic fence-sitter, from which he fell into full blown soviet gas-lighting. Good riddance.
He reminded me of a wrestling promoter saying whatever it took to get people riled up.For me that started to wear pretty thin after while,Noticed as well lately hardly any callers got on the air it was just hours of Gormley commentary
The only time I ever listened to radio was when Gormley’s show was on. I loved how he was able to politely and calmly eviscerate leftist callers by using something that marxists avoid like the plague …. facts. By the time he was finished the leftist’s argument was reduced to name calling and nonsensical babbling. I also found his quite obvious disgust for Trudeau rather refreshing at a time when media was very hesitant to call a spade a spade (or a moron a moron).
Having to work with the likes of Murray Wood (DTS sufferer) and Sarah Mills (wearing a poppy could be a safety concern) took a lot of intestinal fortitude.
I’m gonna miss the guy and wish him luck in his “retirement”.
I really appreciate the mail in campaign but I’m currently otherwise occupied on a southern paradise.
Thanks John for being a great Conservative voice in times when the Truth doesn’t doesn’t seem to matter! I for one will miss your show very much! All the best in retirement!
