92 Replies to “The End Of Affordable Cars”

    1. In the US there must be at least a few million owners of Trucks, RVs, classic cars, HARLEYS etc. whose owners are not likely to go along with the elimination of their beloved ICE vehicles.

Only the ultra stupid white western world is going to self-flagellate over climate while the BRICS countries roll on the floor laughing at our lunacy.

There will lbe black market gas …. along with a lot of other things.

It will be ugly. it’s coming.

  1. a snowflake’s chance in ..
Either auto companies move from the market or this nonsence gets reversed when people realize that they are walking by government edict.
338Canada predicts a 60% reduction of gas emitting liberal MPs – lets increase that.

      1. Well Kenji.

Where have we head this before.
Be careful what you vote for, because you just might get it!

        1. Thankfully all those UAW members will again be voting for Biden…because union leadership told them to.

  2. Yeah, let’s all watch as the Nomenklatura Elites carve out exceptions for themselves and their friends.

“Security Regulations require we use ICE Vehicles. That includes all our senior staffers.”

    1. That is one of the great miscalculations which amazes me. Neither hither nor yon will be very nice places with a populace impoverished by decree. Their security better be top notch.

      1. “Their security better be top notch” and,,,,, trustworthy.
We could well reach a point where the only hope would be “security” it’s self, taking matters into there hands to relieve the rest of us, from the Elitist boot. (Don’t worry, they will be treating the security people with plenty of luxury)

        1. Didn’t one of Justin’s security detail callously tell a protester this summer that his work allowed him to buy a swimming pool? Justin’s personal jackboots are likely psychologically profiled so that only the most obedient or compromised are selected. They’ll bend over for their master no matter what.

          1. Look for the ones with the backpacks, they are armed with military grade weapons “designed for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time,”

Trudeau also claims “There is no use and no place for such weapons in Canada.”

except for the police, and the government to oppress canadians

  3. More market restrictions/control by the Commies.

As so many have stated here on SDA, they don’t want us driving anywhere.
Where is the power coming from?
Will the Cons get elected and overturn the “regulation” and then keep government?
Does anyone trust the average voter not to vote for self-destruction?
“Duhhh, gee Karen, I guess we’re gonna have to buy one of them Teslas…”

The CCC (Climate Crisis Cultists) are never going to give up.
    They’re insane.
You can’t reason with them in any way.

    1. Two thumbs up.

BTW In a, theorhetical, democracy, how can a policy be mandated, or imposed from high. No one voted for this crap. No one was even asked about it.

  4. Cubans keep old cars running forever.

I guess you can export the Cuban leadership to Canada but you can’t change xer proclivities to make things hard for the populace. Let’s see if the northern branch can exercise the same skills to keep old junkers running.

  5. Does this requirement apply to emergency services vehicles? Does anyone even make an electric fire engine?

    1. The fire pumps on most fire trucks can only run on diesel ICE power.
      Burn baby burn, EV inferno

  6. This at the rank and file level is a bunch of bureaucrats, who by their nature are stupid enough to believe this is a) doable and b) good. These middle level donkeys have no useful knowledge, skill or world experience to offer, and think anything can happen by government fiat.
What I want to know, is who at the upper level is pushing this? In addition to the grid and technology bottlenecks, there is the battery issue. The world does not have enough resources to produce them in anything close to the quantity required. These people know this, which is the point, and it dovetails with the 15 minute city idea, as anything more is too much of a walk, and they mean to end private car ownership for most.

    1. Who is pushing this from the top? Our future lords and masters at WEF, UN and sundry Tranzie organizations.

    2. I’m not convinced they know that, because they believe legislation can override the laws of physics.

      1. Or laden with fecal landmines.
Cali showing us how it’s done. Now that’s leadership Newsome can boast of!

  7. I want zero-emission politicians. No more stupid statements emitted from their mouths (or other orifices).

    Think of the children!

  8. Time to put an end to Assault Style Politicians.
Especially the ones who believe that they shall rule over us.
    Retribution.
    Such a lovely word.

We are way past the time of civil correction.
    So Sad.
    Too bad.

Because we are a slow to anger people, fools consider us polite and weak.
Our government is infested with fools and bandits.
Seeking to “help us” along the road to ruin.
In what kind of society,is bankrupting the treasury not treason?
    Betrayal of the trust?
Ends the trust civil society runs on.
    Uncivil Society returns to tribalism.
Who has the biggest gang in the country?
    Follow that tribe..
    The “new middle class”…
Who make nothing and take so much.

  9. Is King Trudeau and his court jester, Guillbealt, issuing more royal edicts to his Canadian subjects? Have his paid scribes (the media) slavishly praised the royal wisdom of Trudeau’s unilateral decision to make travel unaffordable? Canadian “democracy” in action again.

      1. I apologize for being “that guy” that goes full nerd but the King Canute story is often misunderstood. Canute was displaying humility to his people, showing that even a king does not have the power to control Nature (God’s creation according Christian beliefs)

“Canute’s story was “…one of the most misunderstood quotes of all time, he was making the point to his government that even a king does not have divine power. This was a powerful revelation in those days….Canute wanted to show those around him that the King was not divine.
After failing to hold back the tide, King Canute removed his crown, hung it from a crucifix and never wore it again in honour of Almighty God.”

Trudeau, OTOH, does think he has the power to control Nature. Not the tides but the climate itself. Trudeau is all hubris with no humility whatsoever. The anti-Canute.

  10. F*CK THE FILTHY LIBERALS.
28% popular vote, no MP west of Manitoba
Supported by a POS Terrorist loving JAGMEET SINGH

WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE?
    RETRIBUTION TIME
    NO QUARTER For FILTHY LIBERALS

  11. Gasoline: 46 MJ/kg
    Li Battery: 0.1 MJ/kg

Yes, an ICE is less efficient (~1/3) than an electric motor. Yes, some isolated cells have more power per kilogram (but you need some dead weight to make a useful battery.) The details of technical implementation cannot obscure the fundamental fact that gasoline has two orders of magnitude more usable energy per kilogram. No battery operated vehicle will ever get close to the practicality of a gasoline engine.

Even if you overcome the specific energy problem and get a battery large enough to store the power in order to charge it quickly enough you need to transfer 500 kW-hrs in two minutes. So: a power capacity of 15 mega-watts. Just for reference, if you can pump 35 litres of fuel in two minutes, that is a power transfer rate of 10 mega-watts.

Mega-watt class power rates with gasoline is a 1″ diameter pipe. Mega-watt class power rates using electricity at vehicle motor voltages are a completely different matter. Much more difficult and complex.

Anyone forcing you to use an electric vehicle is actually forcing you to walk.

    1. More fun with 15 megawatts: that would be a whopping 3,521 Amps at a dangerously high 4,260 Volts, assuming single phase. Even if you’re three-phasing you’re still at such high levels of both V & A that it’s flat out unsafe for the general public to touch.

The engineering associations of the western world, especially in the electrical space, have been bordering on flat-out negligent in their acquiescence to the green agenda. And I say this as an EE myself, albeit one who does not work on power systems.

      1. “The engineering associations of the western world, especially in the electrical space, have been bordering on flat-out negligent in their acquiescence to the green agenda”

Indeed they are, I.M. along with just about every other professional association.

  12. Don’t expose your Tesla to -30C for more than 24 hours. It’s right in the owner’s manual. So heated garages it is.

    1. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of electrical capacity to go around for that too. Electrify everything! Neverminding current generation limitations, then there’s the transmission challenge to every single home and business. Government creating the crisis then stepping in with the heavy handed answer – 15 minute cities!
What kind of hell scape are they conceiving? One in which the only logical answer is a world without 7 billion people. They usually leave that part out, hoping a dumbed down populace won’t notice. Canada is fertile ground where that’s concerned.

  13. CO2 is not a problem and nothing will ever be zero emissions as long as they have to be manufactured. Man, people are stupid.

  14. Don’t listen to Idiots—–there is no scientific evidence to Anthropogenic Climate change!!!! Kick the Liberals out!

    1. Keith Hardcastle and VOWG:

      THIS is TRUE.
But sadly the BIG lie has been told and retold long enough now that it has gained the fearsome power of myth.
Myth, just like the myth of the ‘social contract’ or the claim that Abe Lincoln started the War Between the States (not a civil war!) to free the slaves.
From my observations over 74 years it seems that the more ridiculous the belief the more powerful it is when it ascends to the level of myth.

  15. For all his talk and bravado, Trudeau will still climb on that jet air plane again tomorrow and again the day after that. Have seen that dickheads itinerary? He’s got more air miles in the last week than my entire family in the last three years. Hypocrisy=Liberal

    1. You’re right but, sadly, accusations of hypocrisy are trite and pointless because these people have no shame and so the accusations get no traction. Only a person of integrity can be moved to correct his behaviour after being cited for hypocrisy.

  16. “We need further education and awareness to ensure that customers are compelled to make the switch,” said David Adams of Global Automakers of Canada.
Commie POS needs to be compelled to tell us where all the electricity is coming from to charge millions of cars and if he can’t answer, then its some ironic shock therapy till he adjusts his view.
How does such a complete fckn idiot get into his position?

    https://globalautomakers.ca/about-gac/contact-us/

    1. From what I can see, there is ZERO Compelling reason to go EV…nor will there EVER BE.

      Electrical Generation: From Where..??

HYDRO.?? Every major river on the planet is Dammed.
Fossil Fuels..?? As if – VERBOTTEN.!!
Wind/Solar..?? A disgusting Wet Dream – Beyond useless
So that leaves us with Nuclear… And for some strange reason, I don’t see Green Peace leading the charge for that one.

EV’s: Can’t tow, Shit range, Spontaneous combustion, Zero used market, Useless in Canada & at 60k Battery replacement (Hyundai Ionic5)….??

Yea, Shove yer EV up yer (_i_)

      1. 100% but as Alinsky taught his hard left acolytes like Barry O’bama: THE ISSUE IS NEVER THE ISSUE.
The feigned issue is “saving the planet”.
The real issue is putting the uppity prols in their place — literally with no personal mode of transport.

      2. As a adult-life long libertarian I read many MANY books on the subject. Perhaps the most impactful was Albert Jay Nocks’ Our Enemy the State. As deliciously appealing as his thesis was, I didn’t quite go that far. But eventually I got there.

  17. The question becomes how long do we tolerate those that wish to make our lives more difficult everyday. The current group of idiots need to go, yesterday.

  18. This bit is priceless.

““We need further education and awareness to ensure that customers are compelled to make the switch,” said Adams.”

Not really, David. What’s much simpler is to ignore you. Compell us? How? Much easier to simply beat the s**t out of you and your crappy not-for-profit lobby group. You have a mere six employees. You represent nothing and are of no importance whatsoever.

      1. Agreed. Lots of us think the same about these sorts of things.

But there’s also a bigger picture. This is about some supposed regulation in 2035. No government anywhere in the world undertakes a project much longer than about two years (except for the Communist Chinese). So by 2035, most of these scum will be either dead and retired or long moved on to something else. As a result, there will be NO regulations in 2035 about this nonsense. Particularly when it’s nothing more than the bleating of an activist group no one ever heard of with six employees.

In short, no one gives a damn about you, you little ratf**kers.

You are right, Steakman; there is no ‘compelling’. In the world of practical politics, no law can be enforced against the will of the majority of the people. But I find it amusing that all these socialists think they can “compel” people to do things.

      2. Steakman, “There will be NO Compelling whatsoever.”

I’m not sure about that, I feel compelled to beat the snot out of our politicians and certain global automaker spokepersons, along with a select number of others on my “sh*t list” inlcluding the WEF, the UN, the WHO, the list is long and continues to grow!

    1. “This bit is priceless.

““We need further education and awareness to ensure that customers are compelled to make the switch,” said Adams.””

Yeah, they really ‘outed’ themselves with that line, didn’t they?

      Scratch a left-winger, expose a fascist.

  19. Buy yourself 4 identical low mileage 2010 Dodge minivans. They are cheap and last forever. That should get you through 20 or 30 years of stupidity.

    1. How will they run when governments order all gas stations to stop selling gas.

Keep voting liberal and that wilil happen.

      1. You can run an ICE on fumes from heated wood chips. Might need room for a gas bag on the roof 😉

The technology was used during WW II in Germany when gasoline was hard to come by.

It was promoted in the States during the Great Depression. I read about a model T that ran for half an hour on a dead alley cat.

    2. I’m going to go into the used car business. Maintenance and repair should boom, too. And don’t forget the comp[anies that make the spare parts.

  20. I wonder if Liberal apartment dwellers in Toronto have the brains to figure out the consequences of such policy? I guess they will just learn to live within their 15 minute neighborhoods/concentration camp.

  21. Will this push, or slow down, separation of AB and Sask.? I haven’t heard a response from the Conservatives on the electrical car mandate, perhaps Canadians need to experience a bit more of the #Libranos before they can make up their wishy-washy minds? Start with not enough infrastructure to support electric cars, no real hydrogen distribution built, no reason to convert to more expensive transport and with the carbon taxes and consumption taxes on top of taxes, I doubt there’s much headroom in family’s budgets for this #Librano wet dream.

I did see in my morning email from The Rebel, the Premier of Manitoba inviting refugees from Gaza to settle in Manitoba as well as knowing how hooped Manitoba Hydro is (their debt is not “manageable”) I doubt including Manitoba with AB/Sask. separation is a good idea. Probs best to have some security arrangement on Sask.’s eastern border with tier 2 Old Canada.

    1. I doubt including Manitoba with AB/Sask. separation is a good idea.

In all the years I’ve been considering WEXIT, Manitoba has never been part of the equation. Far too many Fruit Loops, Whackos, Commies, etc., etc., etc.

  22. What more can be said? When Trudeau and his minions get tossed from office in 2025 (!), PP has many tasks to look after in short order, this being one of them.
There is no question The Grid is not close to being able to handle an expansive adoption of EVs, let alone the failure of these toys to function as per our expectations, for range, temperature, recharge times, cost, etc.
This is a tragedy in the making, and is completely avoidable. Neither government or car dealers can force us to buy these novelties. But, it’s safe to say if this somehow remains unchanged, they use the stick, rather than the carrot, to attempt to force us out of our reliable ICE vehicles.
    $5/litre gas anybody?

    1. Dan, don’t you understand that the EVs can also be used as a back-supply to the grid when the lights go out?Brilliant green logic.

  23. Some of your may be tired of me talking about my 1983 Ford F100, which has run flawlessly for soon to be 41 years. But, genius that I am, I anticipated this scenario 40+ years ago! My F100 is one of the last vehicles sold with a carburetor. No electronics required. Yes, it does have an electronic ignition, but an old fashioned breaker style distributor would be a drop in replacement. Then I am ready for a Canadian winter, plus a Carrington Event, or a nuclear bomb. I only have to survive so I can still drive the truck. I could even convert the faithful Ford to a wood burner as was common in postwar Europe. Find something that burns, and that cast iron push-rod 4.9L six will turn it into momentum.
My advice to the rest of you is to scour the countryside for old Ford trucks and thumb your nose at the zero emissions bureaucrats.

  24. We will have to go back to having little stills on our vehicles so we can harvest wood gas line during WW2

  25. Zero emissions to save the planet.

Hum. A study published in Great Britain suggests that humans breathing contributes significantly to the horror of Global Warming.

Perhaps all good Canadians that support Prime Minster Castro’s valiant efforts to assure the world stays cool should take a very deep breath and not exhale.

I’m sure if it saves the life of one yellow-breasted tit ( Cyanistes cyanus flavipectus). it’ll be worth it.

  26. Whatever.. Define new car?.. Sell it to Mohammad and drive it around the block three times.. Its now USED..

  27. I can imagine what the run on car and truck sales will be like in 2034. Every last person with half a brain will want a rand new car or truck with the hope that they will continue to run for another 10 or 20 years. There won’t be any room on the dealer lots for EV’s when nearly every consumer will be looking for their favorite ICE vehicle.

  28. How does the ratio by 2026 work? Will someone hold a gun to 20% of buyers heads at a car dealership telling them to buy EV’s? Will the government buy 20% of EV’s to offset the 100% ICE cars sold?

    1. Explain why vehicle manufacturers will ramp up production of EVs, when they lose anywhere from $30K to $60K per?
Typical government policy, based on insanity and incompetence.

    1. Ride a bicycle and never fart. But you have to use fossil fuel energy to make the bicycle components, so never mind.

  29. “The federal government needs to produce a realistic and flexible plan that takes into account the vastly different economic and geographic realities of Canada,”

Implying that Trudeau and his staff know something about Canada is flat out comedy.
