The old bumper sticker used to say something like, “Lord, please grant me another oil boom, and I promise not to piss it away this time.”

Well, oil prices were up in 2023, but oil drilling in Saskatchewan certainly didn’t reflect that. So Pipeline Online asked Premier Scott Moe what Saskatchewan is going to do about it.
Saskatchewan’s Year in Energy: Premier Scott Moe, 2023: Part 2 Oil Drilling, or Lack Thereof
Across the border to the west, The last coal-fired power station in Alberta will soon be out of coal. A few weeks ago, a notice posted to the the Alberta Electric System Operator website provided an update on its conversion to natural gas.
The end of coal-fired power in Alberta is nigh
Also, from Canadian Press:
Regulator denied Trans Mountain variance request due to pipeline safety concerns
And this one is a doozy. This is the Liberal government trying to cement into place carbon pricing so that even if the government changes, nothing can be done about it.
Feds sign first carbon contract for difference with Calgary-based Entropy
A deal with Calgary based ENTROPY.
Well, they got the name right:
Entropy, broadly : the degree of disorder or uncertainty in a system. 2. a. : the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity. Entropy is the general trend of the universe toward death and disorder. Merriam Webster dictionary.
Poilievre should announce that all agreements reached with this federal government regarding carbon capture will be null and void and without compensation when he becomes PM. Any corporation considering such an agreement should take heed. The LPC/NDP fiscal scorched earth poison pill policies need an antidote.
Here in CA … I am being FORCED to learn about a GIANT oil DOOM … if we don’t “just stop oil”.
In order to renew my professional license, I MUST complete the continuing education course titled: Net Zero Carbon Design Course. And I have to actually $$$Pay$$$ for my indoctrination.
We in the west get nothing…nothing of value from our federal masters! Nothing that we couldn’t get faster and cheaper somewhere else.
Moe needs to really up the anti and play hard ball.
“ We are like passengers in a plane losing altitude. We don’t feel it. Alienation builds, incomes flatten out, it’s passengers oblivious to democracy, cynicism spreads, yet because we feel no sudden shock, we go about life as usual, we haven’t noticed that we can count those cars on the Cloverleaf, and the bales in the field.” Ted Byfield
Ted also said “ until they think we might get out they will not do anything to keep us in.”
Moe is playing the optics game. Pretending to fight his fellow Liberals while supporting the Liberal green plan and destruction of Canada. Moe and his supporters do not consider separation or threat of separation as an option. They gleefully dance to most of Turdeau’s commands.
Just as western canada missed out on the boom 2017 – 2019. During that period the US reclaimed the title to the largest O&G producer in the world.
This contract is the same reason why the government is sticking carbon pricing in the Ukraine Free Trade deal, and then blaming the conservatives when they stand opposed to it…
Yah, because imposing taxes on an ecologically and economically imperative gas is integral to the principle of “free trade”.
Coal is still King.
Global coal consumption was higher last year than ever before, and this year is on track to grow by 1-2%. All this growth in consumption is in China and India.
Meanwhile, German coal has been largely replaced by natural gas, though that stuttered some at the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine – not because of sanctions that were ignored or end-run, but because of the inexplicable detonation of the gas line.
American coal use was already trending down due to natural gas replacement, as has Canadian consumption. Fraccing has provided vast sources of gas wherever it’s allowed.
So, North America and parts of Europe are playing along but the Chinese and Indians do as they wish. Who are the fools here?
