Saskatchewan’s Year in Energy: Premier Scott Moe, 2023: Part 4: Lithium, Helium, Conclusion
In the last year, two lithium companies are working on pilot projects for lithium commercialization. North American Helium increased its number of helium processing facilities from three to seven. Royal Helium, having just completed its first helium processing site in Alberta, may develop its Climax, Saskatchewan properties next.
Happy boxing day all. On my way to my family yesterday to celebrate and we got into a traffic jam between hwy 6 and Guelph Line on the 401. We were going east, when we got to where the issue was it was on the right shoulder of the west bound lanes. Flames and smoke, nothing left but some of the frame, everything else was ashes. The steel frame was still burning, and would probably have been gone before the fire trucks arrived. 98% sure it must have been an EV. Looked like they got out in time.
Using helium to fly crap over Canada is pretty much the next option…
No doubt it takes a lot of fossil fuels to generate, eh?
Oil, gas, coal, natural gas and nuclear are the only sensible options available. You want to kill people, well try and remove their ability to eat and stay warm, you will get your wish, just not quite the way you think.
This reminds me of divorce court far more than any sort of energy portfolio.. You get the kids, house and car.. I get the burden of paying for it all..
What becomes obvious over the four parts of the interview is that Scott Moe understands thoroughly the energy issues that confront his province. What is also evident is that the federal government, NRCan and Environment Canada in particular, has not the slightest idea of the impact of what they are demanding. (It could be reasonably asked what kind of bad drugs they are smoking.)
It should be evident that whatever happens will not resemble what Justatwit, Wilkinson and Guilbeault imagine will happen.
Indeed. I’ll put it all together in one piece and publish it later this week, maybe Wednesday. But yet, you do gather he does understand what’s going on. Not sure how many, if any, federal Liberals do.
Brian, he understands entirely what’s going on, as do I. My background is nuclear, and he’s entirely right about all of it. SaskPower should count themselves effing lucky that for once they have a Premier who thoroughly understands their issues. A major part of the energy future for Saskatchewan, as it is in Ontario, is nuclear technology. Saskatchewan is blessed further with the world’s largest uranium reserves not controlled by Russia. It also has a small but significant tech base in nuclear. This too will very much be to Saskatchewan’s long term advantage.
Even if one is entirely skeptical about global warming, which Moe wisely does not get into, the need for clean, reliable electricity will never go away as long as we are an advanced civilization. (The policy complexity of AGW is enormous and Moe discussing it in this interview will serve no useful purpose.)
It’s no accident that countries like India, China, the UAE, Egypt, Poland are building as much nuclear power as they can.Two of them have huge fossil reserves, but are still in the process of building as much nuclear power as possible.
No, the federal Liberals are blind to most of this. The Dippers have been a lost cause since the 1960s. After the gutting of the policy sections of the federal government bureaucracies under Justatwit, the Ottawa bureaucrats don’t understand much of this stuff either. Perhaps the most paralyzed and inept department on anything to do with energy and economics is Foreign Affairs, but then it always has been.
Yes, please compile this interview into one document. There are a number of people it should be circulated to. At some point if you are interested, we should talk. There are some national and global perspectives you would find helpful. Furthermore, there will be a large nuclear conference in Saskatoon this coming June. You will find parts of that interesting and useful. If you are at this conference, we should meet.
they missed one. Tedium
