Saskatchewan’s Year in Energy: Premier Scott Moe, 2023: Full Interview

If you didn’t have a chance to see this interview posted in four pieces before, here is the full year-end interview between Premier Scott Moe and Pipeline Online editor and owner Brian Zinchuk

Also, Premier Scott Moe’s social media folks posted the Pipeline Online story about the carbon tax on Saturday:

That bill there is directly from my father’s Jan. 2023 bill, when the carbon tax was still $50 per tonne. In April, it’ll be $80 a tonne. Without getting into too much detail, the shop that was connect to his natural gas is no longer. Thank God.

It was rather entertaining to read some of the comments, like suggesting my 80-year-old father should pay for upgrading the heating on his home (with only his meager CPP and OAS). Because every 80 year old will see a return in 10 years on such an investment. Certainly.

Another suggested he must be in a high income bracket – nothing could be further from the truth. Or that Trudeau’s climate action cheques must be enough to compensate.

True believers, those.

Anyhow, happy new year, everyone! And if you live in Saskatchewan and have SaskEnergy or SaskPower for home heating, happy no more carbon tax, on that, at least, year!

  1. Carbon taxes will have no impact on climate but they do give TPTB extra money to screw around with your life. After all, that is the goal of most climate change policies … impoverish you and enrich those that control government.

  2. This is what pisses me off, Brian: Why does our government now get to decide that we should live our lives without a heated workshop? It was affordable in the past, and now they’ve deemed it shall be not available to us anymore. And it’s the same thing for other aspects of our lives: boating, hauling a camper, turning our thermostats in our homes above 16 degrees C in the winter, reliable internal combustion engines, light bulbs, plastic.. it’s never ending with these zealots. Eventually, I’m going to move to the US to avoid it. I’m already planning the move in my head. I fantasize about it.

    1. That would be an ‘out of the fire and into the frying pan’ move. There’s better and cheaper places to move to than the US.

      1. It is commendable that Smith and Moe are fighting for provincial rights and fairness for the people in their provinces. It is notable and typical that they are the only two premiers doing this while the others doing nothing. That says a lot about Canada and the state of the confederation.

The problem is that the Trudeau Liberal-NDP government is not the only problem. If the federal CPC win the next election then they still have the Liberal dominated Senate, the Liberal appointed federal and Supreme Court judges, the Liberal infested Ottawa bureaucracy, and the Liberal loving media. Harper ran into the same situation but the stable debt and deficit gave him fiscal room to make changes. Trudeau’s debt and tax binge will take a generation to fix.

There are still places in the US that are an improvement over Canada but we’re looking at other countries too. Many have a version of a qualified retirement visa programs (or Pensionado Programs). We’ve narrowed it down to six. Three with long established expat communities and 3 up and comers for the more adventurous. We’ll be visiting all six over the next 2-3 years before making our decision.

        1. Can you share those destinations please? I know Panama has a great program but I would be interested in other options. Gracias.

          1. 3 established countries – Panama, Costa Rica, Uruguay

3 adventurous countries – Belize, Paraguay, Ecuador

I also liked Chile but not the higher risk of earthquakes

  3. What carbon tax cheques? In BC only the truly poor people get them if at all. They’re very open about it being a wealth redistribution scheme here.

  4. “ Strong property rights under British common law were once the cornerstone of our enviable Canadian prosperity, but modern statutory law is turning this bedrock foundation to quick sand!”

  5. Good work to post the whole thing, Brian. It will indeed be amusing to see some of the responses and the outright lying that the kultists will produce.

    1. If you are referring to the full bill, yes, indeed, there were dozens of people who did not believe it was real, accused me of doctoring it, or outright lying. Their own personal perspective could not allow them to see what was plain in front of their faces.
      for example:
      Dan Vakoch
      @VakochDan
      Replying to
      @Pipeline_Online
      and 2 others
According to the blog, the shop is “minimally heated.”

The story doesn’t square with the bill.

He’s either got a meth lab, leaves windows open all the time, heats to 28c, heats the uninsulated shop 24/7… or all of the above.

The bill is real. The story is BS.

So you were correct in your prediction.

      1. Brian, I hate being correct in those sorts of predictions. It’s increasingly obvious that we are dealing with a religious cult and not anything based on logic or reason. Cultists always avoid any objective evidence, and post-modernism provides them the justification to do so. After all, numeracy is racist, or sexist, or offends the alphabet people, or something else equally ridiculous.

Anyway, we will hear some sensible things about nuclear and Saskatchewan’s energy policy next June at the big nuclear conference in Saskatoon this coming June. Scott Moe will be the featured speaker.

          1. Canadian Nuclear Society conference, starting June 16. Here’s the link.
            https://cns-anncon24.ca/

It’s the principal nuclear technical conference in Canada every year circulating among a number of locations. This conference has been going on annually for about five decades. This year it’s in Saskatoon.

There’s not much detail on the website as the organization of the program is just getting underway now. I will certainly be at the conference. To contact me directly, Kate will have my email. If you are interested, we should talk.

  6. Anyone who thinks they get more back on carbon tax refunds than they pay likely also believes the mRNA jab is safe and effective.

  7. Premier Moe and Danielle Smith are leading this fight against Justin and the mad climber Guilbeault! The whole nonsense by the Left is base on the Biggest Lie and Deception in Human History!
Thanks Brian for your information and I would also like to thank 2 Canadians Dr Tim Ball and Dr. Patrick Moore!
” May The Force be strong with Us”!

      1. Dr Ball left us in 2022! He won his court case against Dr Michael Mann and the IPCC! But was bankrupt by time it finished!!!! In my opinion A TRUE HERO!

  8. Sickening, ever Canada post is charging carbon fees on packages being mailed. An 8 carbon tax on a twenty dollar package, it’s nothing more than a liberal slush fund to keep their lobbyist and elite buddies greased like pigs?
