Conservative in Name Only

If even a conservative government can rack up this kind of debt, there’s no comfort in knowing that a liberal government would rack it up even faster. There’s virtually no political constituency for smaller government left anywhere on the planet, perhaps with the exception of Argentina.

Ontario is delaying its path to balance as lethargic economic growth drags the province’s books further into the red, with a $9.8-billion budget deficit projected for the coming fiscal year.

The deficit for 2024-25 is almost double what the province projected in the fall economic update. That document had also eyed a return to surplus the following year, which was already delayed a year from the 2023 budget. Bethlenfalvy now projects that a small surplus will not happen until 2026-27. In 2025-26, the deficit is forecast to be $4.6 billion.

  1. Naturally CP is ignoring the real cost issue: Justatwit’s carbon tax. Until this is repealed by another government, no province can do much of anything about inflation.

    1. I don’t have the heart to read what they’re filling kids heads with, I really don’t. I feel sry for them and the parents that care , and have to deal with complete crap.

      1. Hey Mugs, the kids are alright. I have teenagers and I coach teenagers. My one daughter told me tonight that her teacher is away tomorrow at a ‘racism in school sport’ session but my daughter said that it is BS without me telling her the same.
Doug Ford thinks that the kids are racists but the kids know Doug Ford is an idiot.

      1. Ontario Conservatives are just slow, cheap, fat Liberals. Nothing changes but the when and how much you have to pay.

  2. Why waste money on 4 police helicopters? it’s a bad buy when police are saying you are on your own…

  3. After AB/Sask. separate from the sinking Canadian ship, BC will be the only “have” province and all the others will be desperate to “do something that works” having wasted the past decade fellating the #Libranos and thinking that would work.

So happy I’m in the west. Sure are a lot of ads on my social media looking for nurses and health workers, for all the other jabbity-jab jurisdictions.

    1. Please God, if Alberta and Saskatchewan separate let Manitoba go with them. I don’t want to have to move again at my age.

    2. The chart at your 338 Canada link displays the frightening problem we face in Canada, namely a huge number of fools prepared to vote themselves into socialism.

The popular vote percentages for the NDP and Liberals total 50%. Only 38% are conservative.

Canada is doomed. I’m moving to Florida as soon as I can liquidate assets.

  4. What I like about threads like this is that the apologists expose their hypocrisy for all to see. They’ll exonerate blubber douggie for the same excesses that makes them (rightly) howl for turdo’s head.

  5. Doug Ford does not have a conservative bone in his body. Cut from the same cloth as Jason Kenney.

    1. Remember, shoulder to shoulder with Trudeau and he stated that Freeland was the best to be Finance minister.

    2. In fact, Doug said that all the premiers ‘love’ Freeland but that he ‘loves’ her the most.

  6. Fat F**k and his Band of F**kholes are about as conservative as Juthtin is manly.
Its only difficult to balance a budget if you have no morals/scruples, call it what you like.
And these f**kholes actually think its the opposite – like saving someone from killing themselves causes irreparable harm.
    Shithole province.

  7. When Westerners finally clue in WEXIT will occur in a flash.
Saskatchewan needs to restart the workings up around Urainium City.
If anyone has still missed it,Can Ahh Duh has no intention of ever paying off its debt.
Cursing the future generations with massive interest payments ,insolvency and stripping them of choice..
    By intent.
The treason of our current bunch of “Truth Benders” will eventually dawn on the last few taxpayers living in this bloated dominion.

  8. Why be stupid?
    Spend.Spend.Spend.
    Why leave any penny unspent?
The Liberals will just spend it anyway.
    And then some.

Have you seen the grief that NB Premier Higgs is getting for regular surpluses and yearly reductions of billions in total debt?
Most of it is from the Ottawa idiots, but still, the wailing and gnashing of teeth by the usual suspects, astounded, just astounded at the thought of the loss of all those lovely untouchable free Ottawa dollars is heartwarming.
Higgs did show his real Canadian Conservative credentials with his whopper of a .68 of one percent tax cut.
    Words fail.

  9. I can’t remember being this disappointed in a politician since Harper didn’t cancel the CBC.

We’re past the tipping point for a collapse anyway, so we might as well spend like mad and enjoy the decline.

    1. I can’t remember being this disappointed in a politician since Harper didn’t re-write the Firearms Act, as he had promised both verbally, and in writing, both as Opposition Leader and as Prime Minister.

What’s worse: his party never even began to write the new legislation. They never had any intention of keeping that promise.

The only truly conservative party in Canada is the PPC. And “Conservatives” are too stupid to vote for them.

  10. There’s virtually no political constituency for smaller government left anywhere on the planet

As a very long term libertarian and Austrian economics enthusiast, that is my view as well and I have said it here at SDA many times. It is also the basis for my disagreement with the “rip the band-aid off” crowd who expect Poilievre to pull off the impossible and on his first day as PM.

  11. Everything our governments have done and are doing is destined for failure as failure is the goal.

  12. But don’t worry, according to what I keep reading on this blog, all we have to do is vote the right way next time and everything will get better.

Because changing the frontmen will also change the people behind the frontmen, right?

Because the frontmen tell those people what to do, right?

  13. Covid inflation and migrants is the one two punch that knocks out any economy.. Add the idiot green mandates and you got yourself a 2nd great depression that printing more money isn’t going to cure..

They have actually, finally done it.. Destroyed everything..

  14. In the Provinces east of the Saskatchewan border it’s “PROGRESSIVE conservative”. Meaning it’s NDP socialism with some pretend conservatism for looks.
I haven’t supported Pc since Ralph Klein was deposed by the progressives.
