7. Interestingly, Jewish liberals are a unique bastion rarely found outside the USA in large numbers. The basis given (although it sounds too simple to me) is that they put a significant amount of value in secular government. So, when the Right goes out of their way to court the Evangelists (as they do every election cycle) the Jewish community sees that as a threat and will immediately shy away from the Republican platform.

   For lack of a better explanation, perhaps there is some truth in that. It would be heightened by the value Jewish voters put in the advice provided by their “community leaders.” I don’t expect the layman voter to even understand what “secular” means.

      2. Nice link, Burton. Deep in the article they even touch on the Evangelicals and how their fervor is off putting. The main gist (which I would have liked to have seen dissected more) was the fact that the Jewish community acts as a “community” so as to apply collective action in the goal of “social justice.” If you think about the plight of the Jewish people, this approach is perfectly understandable….and flies against the concept of “rugged individualism” which is (or used to be) a staple of conservative thought.
