Deep Impact

Western Standard;

The axe fell on Global News on Wednesday with cuts across the country.

In a tape recording of a address to Alberta staff obtained by the Western Standard, employees were told the cuts involved multiple stations, bureaus and Global National.

The number of staff cut hasn’t been disclosed as those who have been targetted could use union seniority to fight for a job. […]

The Global News cuts come despite the company receiving mainstream legacy media bailout money from the Liberal government.

The federal government approved a $595 million media bailout in 2019, including annual payroll rebates of up to $13,750 per newsroom employee. Two years later, in November 2021, the Trudeau government doubled annual rebates to a maximum $29,750 at an additional $129 million.

    1. I would like to feel bad for them, I really would. It is the better man that can feel compassion for those in bad situations.

But then I recall many in the media saying I should be isolated, excluded, even jailed because I didn’t buy all this covid crap, or climate crap, or whatever crap they were selling.

So I am not the better man, I can live with that….learn to code you bastards

      1. Yup, 100%. GlowBull seemed to be THE most zealous of the Covid Karens.
Hope it HURTS! I guess tonight we see which of the Mediots were SIXED in Vancouver and Kelowna.
        Not enough though, I suspect.
Keef Baldrey and Climate Change Christy would be a good start. Then the tarts in front of the camera, with no world experience, lecturing how we should live!

    1. Yes! “We don’t need to worry about funding anymore, the government has our backs. Now let’s present the news WE want to show, not what the deplorables wants to see!”

  1. “multi-skilled journalist”
    Haha!
Does mean they can read and write propaganda?

    1. More like “can walk and scratch their ass at the same time”. Although their hand is on their elbow, half the time…

  2. This is a variation on the Striesand Effect—-fund the media to make them bankrupt. I stopped listening, watching or reading media funded by the Liberal government, as the recipients were plainly under a conflict of interests as (former) journalists. And they were true to form, spewing government-coerced propaganda. Good riddance.

  3. “Corus shares on Tuesday were trading at .28 cents, a drop of 95% in the last five years.”

If not for CanCon rules, they probably would have been bought out by some american outfit years ago.

  4. What’s next, AI robo-cartoon characters reading the news/propaganda? The news today is so bent to the left as to be unrecognizable. This is the direct result of Liberal intervention.

    1. Given that it can be generated fast enough with enough power, there is no reason that Max Headroom could make a return to the airwaves to present the daily “news”/”2 minutes of hate”.

Don’t really need an anchor any more.

  5. “The axe fell on Global News on Wednesday with cuts across the country.”

    An excellent start.

  6. When all the TV news in Canada are Liberal fluffers, the key to success is segment your market. When 100% of the market are Liberal ass kissers, has it never occurred to anyone that the path to financial success might be to be Conservative ass kissers? There is a big market but everyone would rather go broke than compete.

  7. My friends who are in trades/occupations/ businesses that require actual physical labour all say the same thing: “I’m short-staffed because I can’t get good, reliable help. They show up late, call in sick, and when they do show up they’re always dicking around on their cellphones.”

So take heart all you former Global employees, there are lots of opportunities for you folks with your stellar work ethic. Try putting some calluses on your hands instead of your arse and your brain.

    1. I don’t think there was/is a lot of brain friction going on. All those brains could be good as new and never been used.

  8. A “journalist” couldn’t change a tire, let alone use a tool. As useless as bureaucrats, and paid the same way, from the productive, to the parasitic.

  9. Once you take government money, you are no longer a journalist, your product is no longer news.

You are a marketing writer, a propagandist, a whore.

Whores get a lot less sympathy when their customers can no longer stand them.

  10. Money from the Liberal/Dunce Party government drying up?

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”
    — Margaret Thatcher

  11. “…The number of staff cut hasn’t been disclosed as those who have been targeted could use union seniority to fight for a job. […] ..”

Soooo … those with seniority get preference … no doubt the quality of Global News will drop even lower.

    1. “The most diseased will be maintained to assist future health.” Nah, more like the zombies are out of brains and looking for the next to be cannibalized.

  12. There’s sowing and then there’s reaping. But there’s no reaping without sowing.

  13. Did somebody say “Learn to code” already?

Dear Glowball News weenies: You asked for it, you got it. Toyota.

  14. Remember when Canwest Global Communications went into bankruptcy protection?? Maybe this time them and a few other lying journalist stations can disappear for good.

  15. Pfft, who cares, another propaganda outlet, toooo bad. CBC should be axed, but won’t be, Premier propaganda arm of lieberals/ndp.

Spouting centrist propaganda on all fronts, “you gotta believe us” , old adage, lips moving, they are lying, or whore to some funding/graft model.

Liars and charlatans, whole bunch, sad how far we have fallen as a nation, or whatever we are today.

  16. Sometimes I would look in disbelief at Global News and their stories and see complete and utter Liberal Party of Canada government talking points and propaganda.
As far as I’m concerned they can all FOAD

  17. As I’ve repeatedly said, the main function of TV news is to entertain/distract institutionalized shut-ins, who also its primary consumers.

  18. When Global took over Edmonton’s ITV and turned its news from centrist right to hard core Liberal Party of Canada left I stopped watching it. I have no intention of reversing course. Sucks to be the people being laid off though. I don’t wish any ill on fellow Canadians even those who were paid to disperse or actually believed the Liberal lies the dispersed.

  19. “I am gross and perverted. I’m obsessed ‘n deranged. I have existed for years, but very little has changed. I’m the tool of the government and industry too, for I am destined to rule and regulate you. I may be vile and pernicious, but you can’t look away. I make you think I’m delicious, with the stuff that I say. I’m the best you can get. Have you guessed me yet? I’m the slime oozing out of your tv set”

    Mr. Zappa you magnificent bastard!

  20. l live in London Ontario and wish to share very good news.
having existed for some 50 years, the London Free Press building York Street, having been abandoned much more recently, has now been pulverized. yep. scattered brick the once might blackburn edifice is mere gravel.
l continued to have seething contempt for them the same time period when l got a summer job outside of town and tried to advertise for a ride, they refused some sort of ‘liability’ crap.
otoh they had NO QUALMS day after day month after month advertising gay hookups.

  21. So we (the taxpayers) save $30,000 per year for every newsroom employee canned? Woo-Hoo! Keep the firings coming!
