So they finally came for the folk singers. That white-assed bitch Odetta was the worst.
I went to see her perform at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa some time during the 1970s. Her politics were to the left of Viet Nam’s Ho Chi Minh.
There were many successful black folk artists during the short lived folk boom (e.g. Odetta, Elizabeth Cotten, Harry Belafonte). As well there were many successful acoustic blues artists who participated in the folk craze (Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, The Rev. Gary Davis). The acoustic blues guitar genre was one of the folk offshoots tht has continued on.
