  1. Isn’t the Calgary Stampede going on right now? How long before we see insect wranglers at the Stampede?

From what I’ve heard of Calgary’s Mayor … she’ll be promoting Beetle herding events very soon.

    1. Calgary’s mayor is Beetlejuice!!
Send the bugs to Queerbec for all the commie lite socialists to chow down on … a little cheese and it will taste better than poutine.

    1. Canada will get kicked out of the G7 soon enough. Trudeau has tanked our economy sufficiently to ensure we no longer qualify.

  2. Perhaps this should be turned around.
So when will Justin promote consumption of humans?

  3. Just what everyone needs, GMO flies not native to Canada, being bred for the purposes of feeding to livestock…

hopefully they only mean chicken or turkeys, because I’m not sure we want these in cows…

    1. And how long before they escape and start multiplying in the wild? What will be the environmental damage? Has anyone done the studies? Can they survive our winters? Does anyone know?

“The insects feed on decaying organic matter, making them a prominent choice for reducing composting and manure…”
Gee, for thousands of years we’ve been using compost and manure to grow animal feed and human food too. What possible advantage could be gained by feeding it to bugs? Other than getting a government grant…

  4. I thought livestock was going to be banned to save the planet? I guess they’ll need to find alternative markets….

  5. When the weird kid who ate bugs grows up and gets voted into power.
Pretty sure it was the same kid who got his jollies pulling the legs off insects.

  6. I am waiting for the day that the Liberal-NDP government hands down an edict that any farm that doesn’t exclusively produce soy beans must grow their own crops of locusta migratoria migratorioides.

  7. Unintended Consequences
They have a way of biting people in the ass. Just ask Ramses II, Pharaoh of Egypt, (Exodus 8: 20-30 KJV)

    1. Don’t forget Ramses turned it all around when he invented those great condoms.

  8. “Let them eat gain of function, lab created, giant maggots”, cried the Leftards!

  9. Can someone explain the last sentence in the article?
“On the human food side, the low hanging fruit is in Asia and parts of Europe, but for petfood we’re seeing excitement across the board.”
I also want to know how government money was involved, because it must have been. That’s usually what ignites stupidity like this.

    1. Sure:

People are more likely to eat insects in Protein starved nations (India, China, Vietnam, etc). And potential bugs-as-petfood markets exist in The West.

      1. We eat very well in Saskatchewan Beef, wildgame, pork readily available But if some stunned prick wants to eat a fly we will sell u flies.

  10. What can possibly go wrong? Import foreign flies now as well as foreign government dependents? Why not native insects so if they escape the factory (lab) it’s not as big a deal?

  11. I wonder if Maple Leaf foods spinning off its pork business portends anything, or is otherwise motivated by our changing demographics.
