We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

Going for broke.

In the last four years, the Liberals said that the party has invested more than $46 billion in electric vehicle manufacturing in Canada. Despite the massive and continuous investment, Canadians’ desire for electric vehicles has plummeted, as have sales worldwide.

Not them, of course. Trudeau and Ford aren’t going broke. We’re going broke.

    1. This Goodyear story reminds me of an old joke … an oldy but a goody.
      What is the difference between a used tire and a thousand used condoms?
      One is a Goodyear and one is a very good year 😉

  1. Ontari-owe
    Why did the Libs buy TMX pipeline, overspend to complete, offer it to FN?
    Then blowout spending on EV battery plants?
    Monsieur Deux Visages?

  2. Talk about oxymoron.
    Doug Ford = progressive Conservative.
    As I understand the political landscape.
    Progressive = far left
    Conservative = far right
    That makes progressive conservative an oxymoron.

  3. The Liberal party has invested “more than $46 billion in electric vehicle manufacturing”.

    Has invested or promised to invest? I think most of Trudeau’s investments are false and empty promises.

    1. If it is “promised to invest” (just like the money he “promised” to those countries in Africa when he was shamelessly promoting himself for a United Nations position) then why has the national debt exploded?

      1. They borrowed the money, under the claim that they were “investing” and then probably used it for something else.

        1. Exactly. They tell you they’re building houses but the money goes out the back door to consultants.

    2. At least $30B of those pledges has actually been spent. Volkswagen cashed the $14.5B cheque then promptly slashed production by 50% so no battery plant needed. At least Stellantis had begun construction before casting doubt on its future.

      1. I don’t think so. Volkswagen was offered “from $8 billion to $13 billion over 10 years” in subsidies. That is not giving money away but rather allowing a company to defer profit from taxes etc. The subsidies do not come into effect until after VW has completed construction of the $7 billion plant in St. Thomas. Construction is set to begin in 2027. This follows my earlier comment that most of what the Liberals announce are just promises in the future. VW was also awarded $700 million from a capital expenses grant – again you have to spend the money to get the money. I don’t think anyone has broken ground in St. Thomas.

  4. Art, the use of “Invest” for government spending is just another part of the art of the lie practiced every single day and in every announcement of the federal government. You and I expect an ROI for every investment or we, using our own money, wouldn’t invest in the projects. The government, because it has no money of its own, has to steal ours in order to do anything. And its main project right now is feigning virtue, lying incessantly and buying as many votes nationally and good will for their private retirement schemes around the globe. And as there are no consequences to this kind of legalized embezzlement, it will continue unabated until we make it stop.

  5. It is very surprising that the level of sales of electric cars is falling, because at the moment electric cars are a popular trend. Although it all depends on the specific car manufacturer. For example, if you read the reviews of Tesla cars on this page tesla.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html, you can see that there are more and more dissatisfied users of this brand of electric cars. Interestingly, Chinese electric car manufacturers are now filling all markets with their products.

    1. It’s NOT in the LEAST Bit surprising…!!

      When you scratch your Battery Cover…just the Cover mind you, & your Dealership tells you the Battery pack must be replaced at a cost figure higher than the Initial Vehicle cost…??
      $ 60,000 CAD.

      Ionic 5 Owner had that EXACT Experience & ultimately said vehicle was Written off By ICBC.

      These are TOYS that once the Battery is finished:
      1: Will never be sold as “USED” (Who in their right mind would.??)
      2: Cannot be recycled.

      Said Technology will Never overcome its 100% inability to provide power for any INDUSTRIAL Application:
      Fire Trucks – Garbage Trucks – City Buses – Aircraft – Tow Trucks – Long Range Transportation – Farming…the list is endless of What EV Technology CANNOT DO.

      Diesel Rules IMO.

  6. Apropos of the tagline title … Going For Broke

    I was in Rasputin’s Records on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley in 1976, and they were playing a tune from Ian Matthews new lp “Go For Broke”. I bought a copy on the spot as I quite liked his musical arrangements and voice. I’ve listened to it ever since. Still have that original vinyl … which somehow made it through all my cheap, poor college student, turntable/cartridge years.

    IMHO … one of the best cover arrangements ever.

  7. How foolish to remind people of how much money Justin has spent on this loser technology.

  8. Battery cars or ICE cars, either way those aren’t investments, they’re bribes using money stolen from the unborn.
    The only investments a government can make is in infrastructure and security.
    After that its all just thievery, buggery and immoral.
