And The Police Were Completely Irrelevant As Well

David Henderson- An Opening for Private Liquor Stores in Manitoba

The above is a picture I took last night of people lining up at a Manitoba government liquor store in Winnipeg. For about 2 years now, the government has had a system in place to allow people in the stores one by one. The reason is that a few years ago, there were a number of gang attacks on the liquor stores. People, typically youths, would enter all at once and steal liquor. Some employees were injured.

  1. I got caught in that system last summer in Selkirk Mb. One person at a time in the store. Show government ID to a sour government employee who writes your name in the log book before your allowed to go in and buy a 6 pack.

Yeah that’s a successful business model.

      1. Indeed.

I love the Lockport liquor store. Better selection and prices than the tyrants stores.

I ended up in Selkirk because my buddy said, ” I want you to experience what is going on here”. He sat in the truck laughing while I went in…

  2. during covid times i got refused service when i pulled out my alberta ID in the manitoba store , they said due to covid they couldnt serve an albertan. sent my wife in a few minutes later and told her just say youre not carrying it . we are in our 60s , age was not an issue. losing customers was.

also got refused entry into a saskatchewan provincial park with an Alberta plate.

  3. Yeah, saw this in Brandon at two locations. Went into one, once. That’s it. I don’t need that headache. Funny enough, there’s a private vendor in a store at our lake where the cabin is – nothing at all like this.

  4. And at the Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Co-op gas station, they have booze in the main aisle as you walk in the store. Behind glass, mind you. But available.
