Tracking Hurricane Helene

I’m carefully watching live coverage of this massive hurricane. Live webcams in Florida can be accessed here.

I have several friends in both the Tampa Bay Area and throughout South Carolina. Hoping everyone stays safe.

Update: Ryan Hall, the fellow on the linked YouTube channel, just said that the people in the Big Bend area of Florida, are about to experience the strongest storm that has been seen there in the last 100 years. Simultaneously, Hurricane John is hitting the west coast of México.

  1. I look forward to Al Gore’s new PowerPoint on Helene. Ohhhhhhhhhhh Mommmaaaaaaaaa … a BIG hurricane in FL!!! Cats, dogs … living together with Polar Bears and Manatees! Oh my!!

Not making light of this BIG hurricane. But let’s be real about predictable seasonality of Hurricanes. Some years they’re BIG … some years they’re small.

    1. They are saying this hurricane is the worst in 100 years. That means 100 years ago it was just as bad as it is now.

      1. On the odd occasion I have a Hurricane named after a departed family member, I root for the hurricane.

  2. My sister Helene passed away exactly a month ago. Kinda wild she was reincarnated as a Cat 4 hurricane. lol.

    1. We’re really ollllllddddd, aren’t we? That one of us would actually have a sister named Helene … and not Brooke or something more contemporary like Kenisha.

I’m guessing it was a … family name? But seriously … sorry for your loss. And FLorida’s loss too.

      1. Yes, a family name. Named after her aunt. Thanks for your condolences Kenjii. Hoping Florida and the southeast come through this without too much loss of life.

  3. 2005 to 2017? Something like that, no hurricanes made landfall in the US.

But it’s always the storm of the century when they do.

Every weather report on any given day now has a “risk” of this and “threatening” that with any temperature above zero indicated by a blazing red color…

  4. Be careful repeating these “it’s the biggest happening in one MEEEEELION YEARS” turds.

  5. Just got a call from a neighbor (Friday morning 9/27). Our place came through just fine. Our place is about 2 miles inland from the Gulf between Clearwater and St. Petersburg. We’re on a rise and there’s a decent windbreak to our South, which happened to be the wind direction for this storm.

As PaulHarveyPageTwo posted above, it’s a hurricane during hurricane season in Hurricane Alley. We scored a direct miss and may never get hit. Or we could get hit the next three years running. Who knows with hurricanes?

Those in the path are in a world of hurt. Hopefully, no one lost their life in this hurricane. Others in low lying areas have a big cleanup job ahead of them. Still others, like us, will clean up with a leaf blower.

If you’re in Hurricane Alley, that’s what you can expect, but you never know what you’re going to get.
