I was thinking the same. Any economic disruption in October will be to Harris’s detriment, whether she’s responsible or not.

One could make the argument that Biden is sabotaging Harris. He stated he wasn’t getting involved. One could, also, make the argument that the left leaning Union management saw a bit of leverage in striking just before the election, but miscalculated, and the internal vote of dockworkers is pushing the strike (obviously for more money) but also in support of Trump.

I doubt it will last long enough to make a difference.

Our father always said that when a group of workers goes on too many strikes, other ways will be found to deliver. The dock workers went on strike regularly in the 1960’s, maybe into the early 1970’s. As a result, the huge cranes which can lift containers off of trucks and onto container ships and vice versa were developed. No need to have men load and unload. The same thing happened with plasterers in the 1950’s and so drywall was invented. Faster and you did not need to be an apprentice/journey man/ master craftsman to do it. There still are plasterers for specialized work repairing old plaster cornices, but they are “few and far between”.

There will be a lot of pain during the month of October. It will be interesting to see what happens after the American Presidential Election.
