Blacklock’s- Scrap Millions’ Worth Of Cars
The Mounties have written off millions’ worth of vehicles as scrap metal, new records show. Cabinet in an Inquiry Of Ministry tabled in the Commons said it had scrapped 2,469 vehicles to date. Another 2,396 cars, trucks, SUVs and vans were decommissioned and scheduled to be towed to wrecking yards.
Sales of used police vehicles were banned following a 2020 Nova Scotia shooting spree that left 22 dead. Serial killer Gabriel Wortman. “The perpetrator owned four decommissioned police vehicles,” said the Mass Casualty Commission Final Report.
Oddly, I remember reading that a hallmark of serial killers was they preferred police-type vehicles (Mind Hunter by John Douglas, if I recall).
Also, by the time the police are done with most of these things, they shouldn’t be on the road. And definitely shouldn’t be sold at auction so some shyster can patch it up with duct tape and bubble gum and foist it on some unsuspecting sucker. I have stories…
And now, the local constabulary, Waterloo Regional’s Police Services Finest, have ghost cars that have no insignia at all – in the interest of topping up the pension fund at the end of the month with speeding tickets. You can only tell what they might be from the front impact rack, the seat separator and the extra antennas.
By the way, for the physics experts in the WRPS, if two cars are sitting on the side of the road, and never move, will they collide? Because, yes, only moving vehicles can collide, and therefore, speed is ALWAYS a factor in collisions so saying it in every police announcement makes you look stupid because it is almost meaningless.
And for the geniuses in Hamilton, a tautology is useless on a road sign, like this one: “Speeding is Speeding”. That sign has been on the highway for at least two years.
I grew up there and the few interactions I had with the police were tough, but fair. That was fifteen years ago. Has it gotten worse?
Do you have ANY IDEA how many times I have been pulled over by the police? Perhaps it is because of my moderately-kempt longish hair that flows freely in the wind … or my habitual Hollywood stops … or my perpetual stretching of the maximum speed limit … but I have been pulled over A LOT … and funded the State nicely with my fines.
I have never been rude or combative to any police officer. No … I just challenge my ticket(s) in court … where I’ve beat about half of them. Why fight the police? What’s to be gained? A bullet? A taser? A nightclubbing? Some people lack the simple, basic, common sense necessary to get on in life.
Speaking of genius.
Don’t speed or drive recklessly and you’ll be just fine.
There is still something about ghost cars that makes them stick out like sore thumbs. It could just be the way cops drive that does it. These vehicles are almost always a single colour. No two-tones, no chrome, no stripes and no vinyl on the roof.
Given the value of vehicles parted out, the potential loss is likely trivial but the logic of blaming the vehicle for the crime is identical to blaming the gun, both equally wrong.
I knew what this reminded me of, Cash for Clunkers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_Allowance_Rebate_System
Preventing resale of cars causes “unexpected” effects on the market. They’re expected, just not by “experts”.
Typical government waste.
They should be sold in bulk, then get a Scheib paint job and have the inner gun and radio racks removed.
This is stupidity, emblematic of today’s Liberals and DEI RCMP……
And that’s why immigrant cabbies can’t drive old Crown Victorias any more…………
As well, the RCMP are demanding that fire halls everywhere must look like schools or pubs so that constables won’t shoot the shit out of them.
