Smartmatic President Indicted on Bribery, Money Laundering Election Scheme

A federal grand jury in the Southern District of Florida has indicted three executives of election voting machine and service provider Smartmatic, as well as a former Chairman of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) of the Philippines. The men, including Smartmatic’s own President, Roger Pinate, stand accused of facilitating at least $1 million in bribes.

These bribes were reportedly made to secure and maintain business related to the provision of voting machines and election services for the 2016 Philippines elections and to ensure the release of value-added tax payments.

Yes, that Smartmatic.

Diversity Is Our Hustle

Post Millenial;

Trudeau cabinet minister Harjit Sajjan wanted to use Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel as a backdrop for Punjabi pop star Diljit Dosanjh. Dosanjh, a Sikh from the Punjab region of India, is a well-known entertainer in that country.

As first reported in The Globe and Mail, Sajjan, who was minister of national defense for six years, received a request in April for uniformed military personnel to participate as in Dosanjh’s Vancouver performance on Apr. 27.

It is unclear whether the CAF members were expected to sing or dance. As defense minister in 2017, Sajjan presented Dosanjh with a medal while the singer was touring Canada. […]

“Minister Sajjan agreed the concert would be a good opportunity for the Canadian Armed Forces to engage with and expand connect to a diverse community of young Canadians, along the lines of the CAF outreach and recruiting events at professional sporting events,” said Sajjan’s press secretary Joanna Kanga.

We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

But others disagree.

Firefighters said they received a call about a fire at an unoccupied home on Monday, but upon arriving at the scene, they found that a Tesla was the cause of the fire. They then realized that the Tesla was hooked directly to the nearby powerlines. The illegal connections are a significant problem in the area. People connect directly to the power line or splice into electrical meter wiring to get free electricity, but the resulting power flow is unpredictable and largely unsafe.

No injuries were reported, but EV fires are a big problem for first responders. The firefighters in Tijuana had to build dirt berms around the car to hold enough water to keep it submerged. They estimated that the car could take a few days to completely burn out and said that it couldn’t be moved until they were certain the flames were out.

The Hub- The skilled trades shortage is now a threat to Canada’s economy—and we’re not doing enough to fill the gap

Some 700,000 of Canada’s 4 million skilled tradespeople are set to retire by 2028, according to recent projections. At least one-third of tradespeople and apprentices in Ontario are 55 or older. And as older workers hang up their tools, they’re not being replaced with younger ones who bring matching skills to the job site.

Show Me The Man, I’ll Show You The Crime

Racket News;

Tuesday night, while self-styled Democratic nominee Kamala Harris pledged to defend “freedom, compassion, and the rule of law” to cheers in Philadelphia, Hawaii’s Tulsi Gabbard described being tracked by teams of government agents in a surveillance regime more reminiscent of East Germany than a free country. Whistleblowing Air Marshals told Uncover DC Gabbard was singled out as a terror threat under the so-called “Quiet Skies” program, and the former presidential candidate says she noticed.

“The whistleblowers’ account matches my experience,” says Gabbard. “Everything lines up to the day.”

This story began two weeks ago, when the former Hawaii congresswoman returned home after a short trip abroad. In airport after airport, she and her husband Abraham Williams encountered obstacles. First on a flight from Rome to Dallas, then a connecting flight to Austin, and later on different flights for both to cities like Nashville, Orlando, and Atlanta, their boarding passes were marked with the “SSSS” designation, which stands for “Secondary Security Screening Selection.” The “Quad-S” marker is often a sign the traveler has been put on a threat list, and Gabbard and Williams were forced into extensive “random” searches lasting as long as 45 minutes.

“It happened every time I boarded,” says Gabbard. The Iraq war veteran and current Army reservist tends to pack light, but no matter.

Depends On What You Mean By “Affordable”

Vancouver Sun- B.C. NDP explains why $2B housing affordability program was not about, er, delivering affordable housing

“The units are, in fact, at the high end of the current market rate, according to the recent rental rates on the building website,” reported Kerry Gold in the Globe and Mail on Saturday.

“The 393-square-foot studios are being rented on a one-year lease at $2,650 to $2,750 monthly. A 517-square-foot unit rents for $3,275. A 589-square-foot, two-bedroom unit on the top floor with a large patio is available at $4,200 a month. There are 840-square-foot, two-bedrooms with two bathrooms renting at $4,300 monthly. Suspended For Not Lying

Globe and Mail- Former border agency official pressed to give false testimony, MPs told

The border agency is conducting an internal investigation into allegations of cozy ties between private contractors and public servants involved in government contracting. Diane Daly told a house committee Wednesday that her interview earlier this year as part of that probe was hostile and she was pressed to pin blame on people who had done nothing wrong.

“I’m here to tell the truth but I’m very concerned that if I tell the truth here, I’m going to lose my job,” Ms. Daly said, her hands shaking at times as she read from written notes.
