While it’s true that the annual per person treaty payments are very low, why wouldn’t a court also take into account the mushrooming budget for the Department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs which made such payments redundant over many decades?

Global- British Columbia lifts COVID-19 vaccine mandate for health-care workers
B.C. provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has ended the COVID-19 public health emergency in British Columbia and ended the COVID-19 vaccine mandate in health-care settings.
However, the province is making it mandatory for health-care workers to disclose their immunization status, including COVID-19, influenza and measles vaccines.
Collecting these records will allow health-care administrators to make staffing decisions in the event of an exposure, outbreak, or future pandemic.
CBC- Company halts construction of $2.7B battery project in eastern Ontario
Umicore Rechargeable Battery Materials Inc. said Friday that its project in Loyalist Township is impacted by the “significant worsening of the EV market context and the impacts this has on the entire supply chain.”
The project carried a total price tag of up to $2.76 billion back in 2023. According to a news release at the time from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, the federal government was slated to invest up to $551.3 million.
According to newly unearthed documents, the Liberal government was warned as early as 2017 that Jasper was a “tinderbox” waiting to explode but climate activists within the government refused to alter the “pristine environment.”
According to documents obtained by the Western Standard, the Jasper National Park Management Plan identified the mountain pine beetle as a major risk for wildfires as far back as July 22, 2016.
“Mountain pine beetle expansion in Jasper National Park and associated forest ‘may’ increase wildfire risk to values on neighbouring land,” said the plan.
In Jasper National Park alone, 1.1 million hectares were identified as at risk from an infestation that spread from British Columbia starting in 2006.
“The presence of a large number of dead and dying trees is thought to to increase the risk of wildfire in the national park and surrounding area and this has been partially supported by the observation that in 2017 in British Columbia about one-third of forest fires were occurring in the dead stands,” it said.
The Alberta Forest Service and Parks Canada approved a forest management plan but it was rejected by the Liberal government, documents show.

Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF) tweeted Friday morning that “Following this massive attack aimed at paralyzing the high-speed line network, a large number of trains were diverted or canceled.”
Jean-Pierre Farandou, the CEO of SNCF, told reporters Friday the attacks on the rail system included “arson” and intentionally damaging cables. The state-run rail line said it doesn’t know who’s behind the attacks.
