Blacklock’s- Gambling’s Up, Senators Told

Gambling addiction in Canada has worsened since Parliament legalized single event sports betting three years ago, researchers have told the Senate.

“Seven percent of Canadians met the criteria for problem gambling,” Matthew Young, researcher for the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, told the Senate transport and communications committee. “Rates of problem gambling are even higher among younger Canadians aged 18 to 34 reaching 15 percent,” added Young.

Blacklock’s- Gould Inflates Green Claims

Government House Leader Karina Gould yesterday claimed cabinet’s climate plan cut emissions by “the equivalent of 60 million cars.” Aides did not substantiate the claim. Emissions went up in the last official reporting period, and Canada has never had 60 million cars.

Gould did not identify any source for the claim.

The Department of Environment did not comment on Gould’s claim.

Sexually confused men are invading yet another women’s group. It’s perhaps their most absurd target yet: a group grounded in genetics, the Daughters of the American Revolution. Happily, members are channeling the rebellious spirit of their forebears and fighting back.

DAR bylaws have always been clear. It’s for the daughters—female descendants—of Revolutionary patriots. As a genealogical organization, DAR takes biological integrity so seriously that only biological descendants—i.e., not adopted family members—are eligible for membership.

A small group of the DAR’s leadership now appears to believe that men can be women. They even contend that such men have always been allowed in the DAR.

According to an internal FAQ document, members are expected to pretend that “transgender women” have always been eligible and that their inclusion took place “organically,” as if implicit in bylaws written before “transgenderism” was even thought to exist.

They’re not “sexually confused”. They’re predators.

Closing The Exits

The Israeli finance ministry has been musing recently about limiting cash transactions and possibly criminalizing the holding of gold and silver. As heavily indebted governments like Israel begin to fear a loss of confidence in their ability to service those debts, they will look at measures to prevent citizens from finding a way not to be their creditor. Historically, this would not be the first time that a government barred the financial exit doors in a monetary system.

Tracking Hurricane Helene

I’m carefully watching live coverage of this massive hurricane. Live webcams in Florida can be accessed here.

I have several friends in both the Tampa Bay Area and throughout South Carolina. Hoping everyone stays safe.

Update: Ryan Hall, the fellow on the linked YouTube channel, just said that the people in the Big Bend area of Florida, are about to experience the strongest storm that has been seen there in the last 100 years. Simultaneously, Hurricane John is hitting the west coast of México.

David Henderson- An Opening for Private Liquor Stores in Manitoba

The above is a picture I took last night of people lining up at a Manitoba government liquor store in Winnipeg. For about 2 years now, the government has had a system in place to allow people in the stores one by one. The reason is that a few years ago, there were a number of gang attacks on the liquor stores. People, typically youths, would enter all at once and steal liquor. Some employees were injured.

About safe supply is how it saves lives while drying up demand for dangerous street drugs: “Government Heroin” documentary exposes rampant safer supply fraud

In the film, Callum explains how, three years ago, a friend informed him that drug users in the city were receiving “insane” amounts of free safer supply drugs – predominantly hydromorphone, an opioid as potent as heroin. While these drugs are meant to wean addicts off riskier street substances, the friend explained that recipients mostly sell their safer supply at bargain prices so they can procure stronger substances, such as illicit fentanyl.

At first, Callum thought this was a joke. He had been struggling with a moderate addiction to pharmaceutical opioids – mostly oxycodone and Percocet – but, as these pills were expensive and hard to find, his drug use remained stable. The idea that the government was showering individuals with hundreds of powerful opioid pills a month, for free and with essentially no supervision, seemed “almost like a dream for a drug addict.”

But then he connected with some safer supply clients and realized that everything that he had heard was true.

Free power! Again! Thanks, Alberta!

When your neighbour offers free power, take it. SaskPower did. Thanks, Alberta!

When your neighbour offers free power, take it. SaskPower did. Thanks, Alberta!

SaskPower was “buying” enough power to light 146,000 homes for less than a price of a Timbit, because you have to pay at least something for a Timbit.

And it has a lot to do with excess wind power while interties are down.

Presidential Election Pre-Postmortem

I decided to write my November 2024 election postmortem in early September so I can stop listening to political coverage and focus, instead, on mowing the lawn, cleaning out drawers, and making some more coffee. As soon as a winner has been declared (i.e., sometime between November 5 and January 6), simply print off this article and, between each pair of brackets, cross out the left-hand entry if Harris has won, or the right-hand entry if Trump has won.
